Justin and The Lost Abbey
 SPECTRUM 48K / 128K
 v1.0
==========================

History
=======

JUSTIN lives in a kingdom where bureaucrats rule and
knights have been ousted. His dream is to become one of
the Knights of Valour, like his grandfather was, but his father
REGINALD, the chief counsel to the QUEEN, wants his son
to follow in his footsteps and become a lawyer. After an
inspiring visit to his beloved GRANDMOTHER and bidding
farewell to his supposed lady-love LARA, Justin leaves
home and embarks on a quest to become a knight.

The game
========

For JUSTIN'S first mission you will have to find the path to
the lost abbey. And although you'll be alone in this difficult
quest you will have to be aware in order to find the elusive
healing plant that will revive you when your strengths are
down.

During the journey you will travel through different
surroundings: the enchanted forest with its dangerous
waterfall full of octopuses and the dark cave packed with
traps and dangers that will lead us to the long-awaited goal.

Legend also tells that uniting the three parts of the old sword,
a prodigious pedestal will allow the traveller to access the
mountain that will reveal his destiny.

Difficulty
==========

The arcade has been created with only one difficulty level, but
we understand that for some players it could be too difficult so
that is why we have included in the game's menu a secret
code so that the game can be activated in "practice" mode.
We can only say that
          ....the secret word starts by "e"...

The difference between one mode and another is basically
that during practice the leaves restore life completely.
However you won’t enjoy the amazing end of the game.

But enemies won't go more slowly, there will be less, but they
won't be less intelligent (sic), at any level of difficulty the game
will be exactly the same as we designed it for you.

Controls
Q, SPACE: Jump (keep press to get an higher jump)
A: Push Barrels, press buttons and levers.
O: Left
P: Right

Designer Notes
==============

When we decided to develop this game, my wife, Nuria, and I
basically wanted to develop an entertaining game, which was
playable and challenging as the old games we have often enjoyed
during summer holidays. To defy friends, to feel the challenge, to
recall childhood with your 8bits…

And this debate ended up with us saying…
Why don’t we make a platform game for Spectrum?
And that was the mad idea I took the following day to KANDOR
Graphics. The proposal was a success among my colleagues
and the Director Manolo Sicilia and then we all became excited
with the idea of seeing JUSTIN pixelated.

My aim with Justin and the Lost Abbey was to grasp the
essence of those first games. And if you don’t know what I’m
talking about because you haven’t lived that period I invite you to
take advantage now and enjoy this opportunity, because in these
few bytes we have tried to show and reclaim a bit of what can’t be
lost: the entertainment, the playability and over all the challenge.
Because without a real challenge you won’t feel the satisfaction
of outdoing yourself and your friends!

It is certainly a shame that sometimes we get lost among zillions
of polygons and amazing cinematic scenes when really what we
want to do is just play, don’t we?

I hope that you retro-gamer or hardcore-gamer enjoy like...
    ...Like never before! ;)
